A 90-Day Plan to Reduce Burning, Numbness & Nerve Reactivity

If you do the right things consistently, 90 days from now you could feel significantly better.

By Dr. Don Kennedy, DO, Ph.D., MBA, FAAFP

Most people dealing with neuropathy want relief yesterday.

I understand that.

When your feet burn at night…
When numbness makes walking feel uncertain…
When strange sensations won’t let you relax…

You don’t want a strategy.

You want it gone.

The problem is, nerves rarely operate on an “instant results” timeline.

They calm in layers.
They rebuild gradually.
They respond to consistency — not urgency.

That can be frustrating.

But here’s a better question:

What can I start doing now so that 90 days from now, I’m clearly better?

We’re roughly three months away from Memorial Day.

Imagine getting there and noticing:

  • > Less burning

  • > Fewer random sensations

  • > More confidence walking

  • > Shorter flare-ups

  • > Better sleep

That kind of progress doesn’t happen by accident.

It happens when you approach nerve recovery in the right order.

Why Most People Stay Stuck

Before we talk about what to do, let’s talk about what doesn’t work.

Most people get stuck because they:

  • Chase random remedies they read about online

  • Try five new things at once

  • Stop once they feel slightly better

  • Focus only on “pain relief” instead of nerve regeneration

Nerves don’t respond well to chaos. They respond to order and consistency.

If you overwhelm them… they push back.

If you under-commit… progress stalls.

Structure matters.

That’s why I think in phases.

If I Wanted to Reduce Nerve Pain or Numbness in 90 Days, Here’s What I'd Focus On:

🗓️ Phase 1 (Days 1–30): Calm & Stabilize

Before chasing “repair,” I’d focus on calming reactivity.

When nerves are hypersensitive, everything feels amplified.

Light touch feels intense.
Minor pressure feels exaggerated.
Background sensations feel intrusive.

You can’t build stability on top of overreaction.

So for the first 30 days, I’d focus on nutrients and habits that help stabilize signaling.

My Top 3 Nutrients for Stabilizing Nerves

Close-up of numerous beige dietary capsules piled together.
Methylcobalamin (active B12)

What It Does

Rebuilds nerve insulation (ie. myelin sheath)
Regenerates nerve fibers
Supports healthy nerve signals

Why it Matters

Better insulation means fewer misfired “electric” sensations
Stronger nerve fibers improve clarity of signaling
Stable signaling reduces hypersensitivity and phantom sensations

Dosage & Form

My Dosage Recommendation:

4,000mcg (4mg) / day

2,000 mcg per day is a solid, research-backed starting point.

For more stubborn cases, many studies use 2,500-4,000 mcg per day.

Because it is safe and well tolerated - even in high doses - I typically recommend starting at 4,000mcg (4mg) per day.

Form Matters:

Methylcobalamin is an active form used directly in nerve-related processes.

Cyanocobalamin is a synthetic form that must be converted first — which is fine for many people, but for nerve issues I prefer the active form (methylcobalamin).

R-Alpha Lipoic Acid
(R-ALA)

What It Does

Reduces oxidative stress inside irritated nerve tissue
Boosts blood flow to small nerve endings
Protect nerves from ongoing “wear & tear”

Why it Matters

Oxidative stress is one of the big reasons nerves stay reactive
Better blood flow helps deliver oxygen + nutrients where nerves are struggling most
One of the most studied antioxidants for neuropathic symptoms

Dosage & Form

My Dosage Recommendation:

400-600mg / day

300mg is effective for most nerve discomfort.

For severe or advanced cases, 600mg is most effective.

I typically recommend 300-600mg per day.

Form Matters:

Your body naturally uses the R-form, which is why I prefer R-ALA when available.

Pro Tip: lipoic acid tends to absorb best away from a big meal (many people do morning or between meals)

Benfotimaine
(Vitamin B1)

What It Does

Supports healthy nerve metabolism for faster nerve repair
Protects nerves from glucose-related stress
Promotes healthier nerve function

Why it Matters

Healthy nerve metabolism helps symptoms be less “volatile”
Glucose stress is a major driver of nerve irritation
Protects nerve fibers from deterioration

Dosage & Form

My Dosage Recommendation:

600mg / day

A commonly studied, clinically used dose is 600 mg/day, often taken as 300 mg twice daily.

Form Matters:

Most B1 supplements use Thiamine, a water-soluble form that is less bio-avialable (meaning your body can't absorb & utilize it as effectively).

Benfotiamine is more bioavailable, which is why it’s the preferred form in most neuropathy-focused protocols.

These don’t numb nerves or simply "mask" the symptoms.

They help them stop firing unnecessarily.

The goal of Phase 1 isn’t dramatic relief.

It’s stability and predictability.

Less chaos.
Less volatility.
Lower “volume.”

🗓️ Phase 2 (Days 30–60): Improve Circulation & Nutrient Delivery

Once reactivity starts calming down, the next priority is blood flow.

Nerves can’t repair if they aren’t being fed.

The smallest nerve endings — especially in the feet — are the last to receive oxygen and nutrients.

So during this phase, I’d prioritize habits and booster supplements that support healthier blood flow to the small nerve endings in your hands and feet.

Here's what that might look like:

Light daily movement (even short walks)

Avoiding long periods of standing or sitting still

Proper hydration

Supporting nitric oxide production (to open up blood vessels)

Better circulation means:

More oxygen.
More nutrient delivery.
More opportunity for tissue repair.

You can’t rebuild what isn’t being nourished.

This is where many people start noticing meaningful change.

Support Blood Flow to Small Nerve Endings

VasoDrive®
(peptide)
Illustration of blood vessels showing ACE's role in constricting them.

VasoDrive® is a patented peptide that boosts blood flow by targeting the enzyme (ACE) that chokes arteries and ruins circulation.

By blocking ACE, it relaxes your arteries so blood flows fast again.

That means healthier blood pressure, more energy, and pain-free legs and feet.

🗓️ Phase 3 (Days 60–90): Strengthen Signaling & Insulation

By this point, your nerves have been properly nourished for 60 days.

They’ve had steady access to oxygen, antioxidants, and the specific nutrients required for repair.

Now they’re using what you’ve been consistently feeding them to:

  • ✅ Rebuild and strengthen their protective myelin coating

  • ✅ Repair damaged nerve fibers

  • ✅ Reduce oxidative stress inside irritated tissue

  • ✅ Improve signal clarity between nerve cells

  • ✅ Restore healthier blood flow to small nerve endings

  • ✅ Decrease erratic firing and hypersensitivity

In other words, the groundwork has been laid.

Now you build on that.

This phase is about durability and consistency.

Here’s what to focus on during phase 3 to keep the momentum going:

3 Mistakes That Derail 90-Day Progress

#1: Stopping at the first sign of improvement

Early improvement is often stabilization, not full reinforcement. If you remove support before insulation and signaling are fully strengthened, symptoms can slowly creep back.

#2: Giving up too soon

The second mistake is giving up because progress hasn’t felt dramatic yet. Nerve repair compounds quietly. Subtle improvements in signal clarity and recovery time often happen before noticeable symptom relief.

#3: Inconsistency

When it comes to rebuilding nerves, consistency is critical. Inconsistency - especially when it comes to feeding your nerves daily with critical nerve nutrients - derails progress.

#1: Stay Consistent

Do not reduce or skip daily nutrient support just because symptoms shift.

#2: Gently challenge your balance and coordination

Stand on one foot. Walk heel-to-toe. Controlled movement helps refine signal clarity.

#3: Maintain circulation habits.

Keep moving daily. Avoid long sedentary stretches. Continue supporting nitric oxide production.

#4: Track recovery speed, not just pain levels.

Are flare-ups shorter? Do symptoms settle faster? That’s real progress.

Phase 3 isn’t flashy.

It’s reinforcing.

It’s where improvement begins to stick — and where your commitment over the full 90 days pays off.

What Progress Actually Looks Like

Here’s something important:

Progress rarely looks dramatic at first.

It usually looks something like this:

  • ✅ Flare-ups that settle faster

  • ✅ Bad days that aren’t as intense

  • ✅ Less sensitivity to light touch

  • ✅ Slightly improved balance

  • ✅ Sleeping a bit better

Small shifts compound.

Nerves improve gradually — not explosively.

If you’re expecting fireworks, you might miss real progress happening quietly.

Ready to Commit to the Next 90 Days?

If you’ve read this far, you already understand something most people don’t:

Nerve recovery isn’t random.

It responds to structure.

It responds to consistency.

And it responds to commitment.

That’s why we’re launching something simple.

A 90-Day Nerve Reset Challenge.

Not because 90 days is magical.

But because 90 days is long enough for:

• Reactivity to calm
• Circulation to improve
• Signaling to strengthen
• Real progress to compound

Short bursts don’t give nerves enough time.

Thirty days is usually just stabilization.

Sixty days is where traction begins.

Ninety days is where change starts to hold.

If you’re going to do this… do it fully.

Commit to the entire arc.

That’s why we’ve put together a special 90-day bundle to make it easier to stay consistent — and we’re including an exclusive bonus for those who decide to take the challenge seriously.

No pressure.

No hype.

Just structure.

If you want to look back 90 days from now and know you actually gave your nerves a real chance to respond…

This is your starting line.
